Designed in 1990, the Scribe is inspired by the Minimalist approach to design, a style that uses pared-down elements, keeping design and function close. It began in Post-World War II Western art, most strongly with American visual art in the 1960s and early 1970s. Minimalism derives from the reductive aspects of Modernism and if often interpreted as a reaction against abstract expressionism and a bridge to postminimal art practices.
